What Should You Know Before Ordering Sensor & Actuator Cables?

Frequently Asked Questions

A double-ended cordset has a connector at both ends, allowing the cable to plug directly into the sensor and the I/O module or junction box without field termination. A single-ended cordset has a connector at one end only, with the other end left open for termination into a terminal block or cabinet.
The PUR jacket is specified for applications involving frequent contact with oils, hydraulic fluids, or caustic cleaning chemicals, as well as for drag-chain or high-flex installations. PVC is appropriate for standard indoor environments where chemical resistance and repeated bending are not requirements.
The pin count determines how many conductors the cable carries and how the electrical connections are assigned within the M12 connector. A 3-pin cable supports a single discrete sensor output, while a 4-pin cable adds a second signal wire for sensors with additional functions such as teach input or diagnostics.
