What should you know before ordering Industrial Cables?

Compatibility and part identification: Pre-assembled industrial cables are matched by connector type, cable designation, and exact length. For MOTION-CONNECT cables, the part number encodes all three, and ordering a different length or connector variant will produce an assembly that cannot be installed as a direct replacement. For DRIVE-CLiQ cables, the installed length must also remain within the maximum specified length for the drive topology, as longer cables can introduce signal integrity issues that prevent axis initialization.

MOTION-CONNECT 300 cables are designed for standard fixed installation where the cable does not move during operation. MOTION-CONNECT 500 cables support limited flexing and are suitable for applications with occasional movement. MOTION-CONNECT 800PLUS cables are high-flex trailing-type assemblies rated for continuous drag-chain and cable-carrier operation, with a significantly higher bend cycle rating than the 300 or 500 families.
The last segment of a MOTION-CONNECT part number contains a four-digit length code, where each digit position represents a length increment in meters. For example, a suffix of 1AF0 decodes to a specific meter value based on the position weighting defined in the Siemens ordering documentation for that cable type. The exact decoding table is available in the relevant SINAMICS or MOTION-CONNECT catalog, and confirming the encoded length against the installed cable before ordering is strongly recommended.
Pre-assembled MOTION-CONNECT cables use factory-fitted connectors that are not designed for field re-termination. Cutting a pre-assembled cable and fitting a new connector on site is not supported by Siemens and would void any applicable warranty. If the required length is not available as a stocked assembly, the nearest available length or a custom-assembled cable from a qualified supplier is the appropriate solution.
Siemens specifies a maximum DRIVE-CLiQ cable length for standard installations, with certain pre-assembled variants rated to a shorter maximum as noted in the product description. Exceeding the specified length can cause communication faults during drive startup or intermittent signal errors during operation. The installed cable length, including any routing allowance, should be confirmed against the product specification before ordering a replacement.
Siemens IE FC TP cable meets Cat 5E electrical specifications and is electrically compatible with standard Ethernet, but it is specified and priced for industrial installations where shielding, temperature range, and oil or chemical resistance matter. Using it for office cabling is technically possible, but it's not its intended application; standard Cat 5E or Cat 6 structured cabling products are more cost-effective for office environments.
