Motor and power cables are the pre-assembled electrical assemblies that connect servo drives to motors, carry encoder feedback from motor-side sensors to drive modules, and provide DRIVE-CLiQ communication between components in a SINAMICS drive topology. PLC Direct stocks Siemens motor and power cable products across the MOTION-CONNECT 300, MOTION-CONNECT 800PLUS, and One Cable Connection families, available as surplus sealed, refurbished, and used hardware. Contact PLC Direct for availability.

Where Are Motor & Power Cables Used in Industrial Environments?

Motor and power cables are used at every connection point between a servo drive and its motor, including the power feed from the drive module to the motor terminal, the encoder feedback path from the motor-mounted sensor to the drive, and the DRIVE-CLiQ digital interface that carries both feedback and configuration data within SINAMICS drive topologies. They are replacement items in any facility running SINAMICS V90, SINAMICS S120, or SINAMICS S210 servo drive systems, where cable failure or physical damage to a connector or cable carrier section requires an exact pre-assembled replacement to restore axis operation.

Facilities and operations that depend on motor and power cables include:

  • CNC machining centers running SINAMICS S120 multi-axis configurations where MOTION-CONNECT 800PLUS power cables between booksize motor modules and SIMOTICS S spindle or feed axis motors must be replaced after drag-chain wear causes insulation damage or connector failure.

  • Packaging machine servo axes using DRIVE-CLiQ signal cables between SINAMICS S120 motor modules and motor-side encoder interfaces, where a failed cable removes the affected axis from the drive topology and stops production until an exact length replacement is installed.

  • Robot cell installations running SINAMICS S210 single-axis drives with OCC One Cable Connection assemblies, where combined power and feedback cables must be replaced as a unit at the exact installed length to restore axis communication.

  • Machine tool operators maintaining SINUMERIK CNC systems who need replacement handheld unit cables after the integrated spiral cable is damaged from extended use on the shop floor, requiring an exact model match to preserve the two-channel emergency stop function.

  • Panel builders and field maintenance teams replacing motor power connectors on SIMOTICS S motors, including SPEED-CONNECT and screw-cap connector assemblies used to terminate large cross-section motor power cables at the motor terminal box.

A failed motor or power cable disables the affected servo axis entirely, making exact part number, connector type, and cable length matching essential before ordering a replacement.

Which Brands of Motor & Power Cables Does PLC Direct Stock?

This collection consists of Siemens hardware across four product families.

  • Siemens MOTION-CONNECT 300 Series: Pre-assembled encoder signal cables for SINAMICS V90 drives and S-1FL6 servo motors, fitted with drive-side and motor-side connectors for incremental and absolute encoder interfaces, rated for standard fixed installation with UL/CSA approval.

  • Siemens MOTION-CONNECT 800PLUS Series: High-flex trailing-type cables for SINAMICS S120 drive systems, covering DRIVE-CLiQ signal connections between motor modules and motors, encoder signal cables with M23 connectors for SINAMICS S120 SMC20 sensor modules, and SPEED-CONNECT power cables to SIMOTICS S servo motors, all rated for continuous drag-chain and cable-carrier operation.

  • Siemens One Cable Connection (OCC) Series: Combined single-cable assemblies for SINAMICS S210 drives that carry motor power and encoder feedback signals in a single pre-assembled run, reducing cabling complexity in compact servo axis installations.

  • Siemens SINUMERIK Handheld Units and Motor Connectors: SINUMERIK CNC handheld units with integrated spiral cables for manual machine operation, plus motor power connectors, including the 6FX2003 screw-cap series for field termination of large cross-section motor power cables at SIMOTICS motor terminal boxes.

PLC Direct stocks Siemens motor and power cables as surplus sealed, refurbished, and used hardware, depending on available inventory.

What Should You Know Before Ordering Motor & Power Cables?

Hardware condition options: Surplus sealed cables are unused and in original manufacturer packaging. Refurbished cables have been inspected and restored to serviceable condition. Used cables are tested functional assemblies, with the condition stated on each product listing.

Compatibility and part identification: Motor and power cables are matched by drive platform, motor series, connector type, and exact length, all of which are encoded in the full part number. For MOTION-CONNECT 300 cables, the part number also identifies whether the cable is for an incremental or absolute encoder interface, and substituting one variant for the other will result in an incompatible assembly even if the physical connector appears similar. For DRIVE-CLiQ cables, the installed length must remain within the maximum rated distance for the cable variant, as MOTION-CONNECT 500 and 800PLUS DRIVE-CLiQ assemblies have different maximum length specifications.

Warranty: All motor and power cable hardware purchased from PLC Direct carries a standard 1-year warranty covering defects and functionality, applicable to surplus sealed, refurbished, and used products. PLC Direct supplies motor and power cable hardware for replacement and maintenance purposes and does not provide system design, programming, or integration services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pre-assembled OCC assemblies for SINAMICS S210 drives combine motor power conductors and encoder feedback wiring into a single cable run, eliminating the need for separate power and signal cables between the drive and motor. It is used in compact servo applications where reduced cable bulk and simpler installation are priorities, and is specific to SINAMICS S210; it is not compatible with SINAMICS S120 or V90 systems.
Yes. MOTION-CONNECT 800PLUS cables are rated for both trailing cable carrier operation and fixed installation, and using a high-flex cable in a fixed application causes no functional issue. However, where the original installed cable was MOTION-CONNECT 800PLUS, an 800PLUS replacement is required for an exact match.
Both families use the same DRIVE-CLiQ electrical interface and can connect SINAMICS S120 motor modules to motor-side components, but they have different maximum length ratings and flex life specifications. For drag-chain applications, only the 800PLUS trailing-type variant should be used; for fixed or low-flex installations, either family can be used within the rated length.
The connector type on the motor side is the most critical detail, as different SIMOTICS motor series use different connector formats, including M17, M23, and SPEED-CONNECT sizes 1 and 2. These are encoded in the part number and must match the motor terminal exactly; a physically similar but dimensionally different connector will not seat correctly or may damage the motor terminal during installation.
DRIVE-CLiQ cables must remain within the maximum specified length for the cable variant, as noted on the product specification. Exceeding the rated maximum can cause intermittent communication faults between the motor module and motor during drive startup or operation, and cable length, including any routing allowance, should be confirmed against the product specification before ordering.
