What to Know Before You Buy Siemens SINAMICS Parts

Ordering the correct SINAMICS component requires identifying the drive series, the specific module type, and the communication interface version. SINAMICS G120 and S120 are distinct platforms with separate component ecosystems; parts from one series are not interchangeable with the other.

Hardware condition options: PLC Direct supplies SINAMICS hardware as surplus sealed, refurbished, and used. Surplus sealed units are factory-sealed stock; refurbished units have been tested and restored to operational condition.

G120 vs. S120 distinction: SINAMICS G120 is a general-purpose industrial drive platform for pump, fan, and conveyor applications. SINAMICS S120 is a modular servo and vector drive platform for multi-axis machine tool and motion control applications. Control units, power modules, sensor modules, and accessories from these two series are not interchangeable. Confirm which series the installed drive belongs to before ordering.

CU240E-2 PN firmware and CompactFlash: The SINAMICS G120 CU240E-2 PN control unit stores drive parameters and firmware on an internal CompactFlash card. When replacing a control unit, the original CompactFlash card from the failed unit should be transferred to the replacement to preserve the drive's parameter set, or the parameters must be reprogrammed. PLC Direct does not provide drive parameterization services.

SINAMICS S120 CU310-2 PN without CompactFlash: The CU310-2 PN control unit in this collection is supplied without a CompactFlash card. A CompactFlash card must be present and loaded with the drive firmware and project data before the drive can operate. Source the correct CompactFlash card separately or transfer the original card from the replaced unit.

Sensor Module SMC20 encoder compatibility: The SMC20 is a booksize module for evaluating SIN/COS 1 Vpp incremental encoders and EnDat absolute encoders via a DRIVE-CLiQ connection to the S120 control unit. It does not include a DRIVE-CLiQ cable; this must be ordered separately. Confirm the encoder type on the installed motor matches the SMC20's supported encoder interfaces before ordering.
