Compatibility considerations: PROFIBUS DP and MPI are distinct protocols that operate on the same RS-485 physical layer but have different addressing and configuration requirements. CM modules for SIMATIC S7-1200 operate only as DP Masters; they cannot be used as DP Slaves or on MPI networks. SINAMICS drive control units (CU310 DP, CU320-2 DP) require separate CompactFlash cards. These are not included and must be ordered separately. HMI panels listed as MPI/PROFIBUS DP support both protocols; confirm which is used in the installed system before configuration.
