Compatibility and part identification: PLC modules are platform-specific and must be matched to the correct controller series, rack or backplane type, and in some cases, firmware version of the installed CPU. A Siemens S7-1200 signal module, for example, is not compatible with an S7-1500 rack, and ET 200SP peripheral modules require a matched interface module for the network protocol in use. Confirm the full module part number, controller series, and rack slot requirements from the installed system's documentation before ordering.
