Siemens offers specialized non-contact temperature measurement hardware for high-temperature industrial applications where contact-based measurement is not practical. The temperature measurement collection at PLC Direct covers pyrometer instrumentation from the Siemens ARDOCOL product range, designed for measuring surface temperatures in metalworking, glass, ceramics, and high-heat process applications. Non-contact temperature measurement using optical pyrometers is necessary wherever the target surface is inaccessible, moving, or at temperatures that would destroy a contact thermocouple. In steel mills, rolling mills, glass furnaces, and induction heating applications, pyrometers provide real-time temperature feedback for process control and quality assurance without physical contact with the measured surface.

PLC Direct carries Siemens temperature measurement hardware for sourcing inquiries. The current collection contains one product, which is listed as out of stock. Customers with a specific requirement should contact PLC Direct to inquire about availability.

Siemens Temperature Measurement Products

Product Families

  • ARDOCOL MPA Two-Color Pyrometers: The ARDOCOL MPA40AF1 (7MC3030-1AB40) is a two-color pyrometer with a measuring range of 650 to 1700 °C and a distance ratio of 80:1. The spectral range is 0.95/1.05 µm (two-color ratio measurement). The focus range is from 0.4 m to infinity. The version in the collection includes a transparent visor. Two-color pyrometers are less sensitive to dust, steam, or partial obscuration of the target surface compared to single-color pyrometers, making them suitable for industrial environments where the optical path is not always clean. This product is in active lifecycle but is currently out of stock.

  • ARDOCOL MPA40AF1 two-color pyrometer, 650-1700 °C, 80:1 distance ratio, 0.95/1.05 µm spectral range (7MC3030-1AB40)

What to Know Before Sourcing Siemens ARDOCOL Pyrometers

Current availability: The ARDOCOL MPA40AF1 is currently out of stock. Contact PLC Direct to inquire about current sourcing options.

Two-color measurement principle: Two-color pyrometers measure the ratio of emitted radiation at two closely spaced wavelengths. This ratio measurement is inherently less sensitive to emissivity variations, partial target obscuration, and contamination of the optical path than single-color pyrometers, providing more stable readings in industrial environments.

Distance ratio: The 80:1 distance ratio means the pyrometer can measure a target with a minimum spot size of approximately 12.5 mm at a distance of 1 m (the spot size is 1/80th of the measurement distance). Confirm that the required measurement distance and spot size are within the instrument's specification for the target application.

Temperature range: The ARDOCOL MPA40AF1 covers 650 to 1700 °C, which spans the temperature ranges relevant to steel billet and bar rolling, glass forming, ceramic firing, and induction hardening applications.

Warranty: All Siemens temperature measurement hardware purchased from PLC Direct includes a standard 1-year warranty covering defects and functionality.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ARDOCOL MPA40AF1 is a two-color optical pyrometer for non-contact temperature measurement of surfaces in the range of 650 to 1700 °C. It is used in steel and metal processing (rolling mills, forging, heat treatment), glass manufacturing, ceramics, and induction heating applications where the measured surface is moving, inaccessible, or at temperatures too high for contact measurement.
The 80:1 distance ratio specifies the relationship between the measurement distance and the minimum spot size on the target surface. At 1 m measurement distance, the minimum measurable spot size is 12.5 mm. At 2 m, it is 25 mm. Confirm that the target is large enough to fill the pyrometer's measurement spot at the intended installation distance.
Two-color pyrometers measure the ratio of emitted radiation at two wavelengths, making them far less sensitive to variations in target emissivity, partial obscuration by smoke, dust, or steam, and optical path contamination. In steelmaking, rolling, and glass processing environments, these conditions are common, and single-color pyrometers can produce significant measurement errors under them. Two-color pyrometers provide more stable and accurate readings in these conditions.

The ARDOCOL MPA40AF1 is built for harsh industrial measurement environments where heat, particulates, and optical path contamination are routine. Its two-color ratio measurement principle and 80:1 distance ratio make it suitable for steel and metal rolling mills, glass furnaces, ceramic kilns, induction hardening lines, and forging operations. The transparent visor on this variant provides additional protection for the optical assembly in dusty or high-particulate environments.
