Siemens line reactors and commutating reactors are passive inductive components installed in series with the AC supply or output of drive and rectifier systems to reduce harmonic distortion, limit inrush current, and protect power electronics from line transients. In SINAMICS and MICROMASTER drive installations, reactors are specified during system design. When one fails or needs replacement, the current rating, voltage, impedance, and frequency must all match the original component to maintain drive performance and protection.
PLC Direct supplies Siemens reactors to customers, maintains installed drive and rectifier systems, and sources replacement passive components. Our collection includes line reactors for SINAMICS S120 Combi Line Modules and line-commutating reactors for rectifier applications, with current ratings from 14.4 A to 225 A at 400 V and 16.2 A to 112.5 A at 480 V, along with SENTRON cylindrical fuse links for reactor and transformer protection.
Where Siemens Reactors Are Used
Reactors are protective and conditioning components. When a drive fails or is missing from a drive installation, the downstream power electronics operate without the harmonic and transient protection they were designed with. In SINAMICS installations, the line reactor is a required component for the Combi Line Module and is specified by power rating. In rectifier-fed DC drive applications, the line-commutating reactor reduces current distortion caused by the rectifier bridge. Sourcing the correct replacement based on current rating, voltage, impedance, and connection type keeps the installation within its original design specifications.
Applications that depend on Siemens reactors include:
-
SINAMICS S120 Combi Line Module installations requiring matched line reactors at the specified power rating
-
Variable frequency drive installations using line reactors for harmonic reduction and input current limiting
-
Rectifier-fed DC drive systems using line commutating reactors to reduce current distortion on the AC supply.
-
Panel builds where reactors protect downstream power electronics from line voltage transients.
-
Motor control centers requiring input filtering on large VFD installations

What to Know Before You Buy Siemens Reactors
Reactor selection requires matching voltage, current rating, impedance (UK%), frequency, and connection type to the installed application. Substituting a reactor with a different impedance rating will affect drive harmonic performance and input current characteristics.
Hardware condition options: We supply Siemens reactors as surplus sealed, refurbished, and used hardware. Surplus sealed units are factory-sealed stock. For passive components such as reactors, surplus sealed stock is generally preferred when available.
Compatibility considerations: SINAMICS line reactors (6SL3100 series) are specified by drive power rating and must match the Combi Line Module installed. Line commutating reactors (4EP series) are selected by maximum current (Ithmax), nominal line current (ILN), and voltage. The Ithmax rating should exceed the actual maximum current in the application. The 400 V and 480 V reactor variants in this collection are not interchangeable. Connection type (screw vs. flat) must match the panel wiring configuration.
Part identification: For SINAMICS line reactors, the part number directly references the compatible Combi Line Module power rating. For 4EP series reactors, the part number encodes the voltage (DS = 400 V, US = 480 V) and current rating. Always cross-reference Ithmax, ILN, and UK% values against the original reactor specification before ordering.
Warranty: All Siemens reactors purchased from PLC Direct include a standard 1-year warranty covering defects and functionality, applicable to surplus sealed, refurbished, and used products.
