This controller is especially useful for applications that require short cycle times, have to process very large amounts of data or carry out floating point operations. It is clocked at 1.6 GHz and equipped with 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM. USB, Ethernet, POWERLINK and removable CompactFlash are all included as standard features. The standard Ethernet interface is capable of handling communication in the gigabit range. For even more real-time network performance, the onboard POWERLINK interface supports poll response chaining mode (PRC). Various bus and network systems can easily be integrated into the X20 system through the use of communication modules.

It is also possible to operate the X2X Link cycle synchronously 1:1 or synchronous to POWERLINK using a prescaler. POWERLINK is a standard protocol for Fast Ethernet equipped with hard real-time characteristics. This Altivar 212 variable speed drive can feed 3-phase asynchronous motors. Its protection index is IP21 and it has a built-in EMC filter. It works at a rated power up to 75kW / 100hp and a rated voltage from 380V to 480V AC. Its design is based on eco-energy with a reduction in energy consumption of up to 70% compared to a conventional control system. Thanks to its cable temperature rise reduction technology, the Altivar 212 drive offers immediate, disturbance-free operation avoiding additional options such as a line choke or DC choke to deal with current harmonics.
